Essays
December 6th, 2007
Last summer (2007), I took a writing class called “Writing from Life” (mentioned here). We wrote seven essays on various topics suggested by the instructor. I decided to post my essays here (rather than try to sell them, as the instructor encouraged). There will be two essays for each topic. The first one is the essay I submitted; the second one incorporates the comments I received from my instructor and classmates.
- A special event: I had just returned from a short trip to Fort Worth, TX, and decided to write about that.
- The initial version, which might sound a bit “obsessive” at the beginning, as well as a little disjointed. The instructor said she wanted to see more of me in the essay, and I think you’ll find that in the rewrite. (Everyone suggested dropping the bit about the GPS.)
- The edited version, which better explains why the play had special meaning for me.
- A special person. (coming soon)
- A food memory. (coming soonish)
- Foreign culture. (coming after that)
- Something scary. (And no, it’s not Supernatural!) (coming later)
- Faith. (coming even later)
- A special relationship. (coming after even later)
